About Us

Picture
Our Goal
Our mission here at Sky's The Limit is to provide sanctuary for animals in need. We currently sit on FIVE acres of land in the state of Washington. We are focusing on rescuing birds because the need for avian rescue is great. In the future, we hope to expand as resources allow.

Our Story
We started rescuing hens in May 2015 after finding four Rhode Island Reds on Craig's List in Eugene, OR. This group was in very poor condition and we sadly lost two that fall. In the summer of 2016, after suffering through several vet visits and more loss of the flock, we decided to take the leap and establish our non-profit. With only one original hen remaining, she became the inspiration for the name of our sanctuary.

Meet Shannon - Executive Director & Operations Manager
Shannon grew up loving animals.  As a teenager, she dreamed of having a big farm to bring home all the strays that she encountered.  She once brought home a momma cat and her three kittens from Mississippi while on a Habitat for Humanity trip and found homes for them.  In spite of others telling her that she 'can't save them all,' she will always try; because it means the world to ones she does.  Launching this animal sanctuary will make her life-long dream a reality.

Shannon went vegan for health reasons in January of 2014, but soon made the ethical connection after realizing she was a hypocrite for loving animals while also eating them.  Veganism will always be the foundation of Sky's the Limit.

Meet Ryan - Treasurer, IT Manager & Infrastructure Manager
Ryan has always had a compassionate heart, but lost the connection between animals and food a long time ago.  After Shannon started her journey, he believed that eggs were necessary for optimal health.  His defenses were strong at first.  One day, all the seeds Shannon planted subconsciously "clicked" while preparing a meal and that is when he realized that the seeds of veganism were starting to sprout!  He had doubts about starting a microsanctuary due to time, money, and space, but soon realized that it was worth the effort to save the animals from a gruesome fate.  As the flock of four slowly grew into 14, he knew there was no turning back!  Although Shannon is the primary caregiver to the flock, he is always there to support when times are toughest.

Meet Selena - Event Planner, Fundraising Coordinator & Secretary
Always known as "the animal lover", Selena has always had a connection with our fellow earthlings. Selena became vegetarian in 2007 after getting into a debate about hunting. She realized she was a hypocrite for condemning someone for hunting while she was eating meat from the store. In 2013 she learn the awful truths of the egg and dairy industries and has been vegan ever since. She resides in Bellingham, Washington with her husband Justin, and their dog Tiger and cat Cabby. She has always had a passion for volunteering her time and has experience coordinating several charitable events for human and non-human causes.

Meet Dylan - Legal Consultant
Dylan grew up with cats in a family that loves all animals, but through culture and habit did not grasp the connection between animals and our food system.  After a long hiatus without pets he met and rescued a tiny Maine Coon named Reyes in 2007, shortly before meeting his wife MacKenzie who had recently gone vegan.  Fast forward to 2014 and the family had grown to 5 felines.  Through MacKenzie’s vegan business and the many animal welfare organizations they worked with, Dylan had made the connection between the industrial food system and health problems, environmental dangers and – most importantly – the animals.  Through volunteering, business and legal advocacy, Dylan hopes to influence others to see animals as individual personalities who feel pleasure and suffering.  And of course, bring as many more rescues into the family as possible.

We are looking to fill several volunteer Board Positions for 2019, including: Outreach Coordinator, Secretary, Social Media Manager, Volunteer Coordinator & Grant Writer.  Please email us if interested at info@skysthelimitsanctuary.org!
